... from my fellow Canucks:

New Brunswick will host the second International Federation of American Football Women's World Championship in 2013, officials announced in Saint John on Wednesday.

Saint John will be the venue for the majority of the tackle football games Aug. 2-10, including the medal rounds. It will also host the players, coaches and officials of the teams, coming from eight countries.

Meanwhile, Fredericton and Moncton will each feature two round robin games.

"This is an event that will further raise the profile of women's football internationally and will also bring visitors, a positive economic impact and opportunities for local people to New Brunswick," said Saint John native Larry Harlow, who is the tournament chairman of Football Fever, the organizers of the event on behalf of Football Canada.

Harlow coached Canada to the silver medal during the inaugural IFAF Women's World Championship in Stockholm, Sweden in 2010.

He also co-founded Canada's first women's tackle league in New Brunswick in 2003.

"We are honoured and excited to bring the world's best female players to our province and I am certain that the people here and throughout Canada will show their support," Harlow said.

Canada, the U.S., Finland, Sweden, Germany and Austria are expected to have teams in the tournament.

China, Japan, France, Australia, Mexico and Brazil will also possibly have teams, officials said.

There will be 16 games, including two divisions of four teams from the 2010 rankings. Three round robin games each will determine which championship game teams play.

The U.S. beat Canada to claim gold in 2010, while Finland defeated Germany to win bronze.
