2022 S-B Quiz 8
« on: October 20, 2022, 03:55:18 PM »
Seems they are just taking the bulletin plays and making them quiz questions. Not very challenging.

1. 3/Goal @ B-10. QB A12 throws a pass to airborne A88 who gains firm control of the pass one yard within the opponent’s end zone. As A88 gains firm control of the ball he is contacted by B21 in the end zone and A88 first comes to the ground on his feet at the one-yard line and maintains firm control of the ball. A88 then goes down at the B-1.
RULING:
A, try, B-3, no cock (40 and running).
By 2022 interpretation, when an airborne player gains firm control of a loose ball in the opponent’s end zone, and is then contacted by an opponent, causing the player to return to the ground in the field of play, where he maintains control of the ball, the ball is dead and the player gets progress to the point he gained form hold and control of the ball, resulting in a touchdown. Falling to the ground after completing the catch is irrelevant.

2. 1/10 @ A-40. Back A44 in lined up just behind the Right Tackle and has his left foot inside the Right Tackle’s outside foot. At the snap, A44 works back across the formation and blocks B77 below the waist from the side. B77 is inside the tackle box and 1 yard in the offensive backfield at the time of the block. During the play, A33 runs for a 12-yard gain.
RULING:
A, 1/25, A-25, ready (25).
Illegal BBW by A44. No back may legally block below the waist from the side, anywhere on the field.

3. 1/10 @ A-25. QB A12 is in shotgun formation and slot receiver A80, who is lined up to the wide side of the field, starts back in motion toward A12 before the snap. At the snap A80 heads toward A12 to run the jet sweep. A12 flips the ball up into the air and A80 catches the ball as he crosses in front of A12 and A80 turns upfield and is out of bounds at the A-40.
RULING:
A, 1/10, A-40, ready (40 and running).
All legal action. Note that the ‘flip’ of the ball by A12 is a legal forward pass.

4. 1/10 @ A-25. QB A12 is in shotgun formation and slot receiver A80, who is lined up to the wide side of the field, starts back in motion toward A12 before the snap. At the snap A80 heads toward A12 to run the jet sweep. A12 flips the ball up into the air and A80 muffs the ball and the ball drops to the ground.
RULING:
A, 2/10, A-25, snap (40 and running).
All legal action. The ‘flip’ of the ball by A12 is a legal forward pass, and, when it lands on the ground, the pass is incomplete, and the ball is dead.

5. 1/10 @ A-25. QB A12 is in shotgun formation and slot receiver A80, who is lined up to the wide side of the field, starts back in motion toward A12 before the snap. At the snap A80 heads toward A12 to run the jet sweep. A12 flips the ball up into the air but it is a fake jet sweep and A80 passes by and does not touch the ball. A12 catches the ball and runs upfield and is out of bounds at the A-40.
RULING:
A, 1/10, A-40, ready (40 and running).
All legal action. Note that the ‘flip’ of the ball by A12 is a legal forward pass. The catch of the ball by A12 is legal.

6. 1/10 @ A-25. A12 catches the ball and then throws a forward pass from the A-20 to A88 who makes the catch at the A-40 and is downed at that spot.
RULING:
A, 2/20, A-15, ready (25).
Illegal forward pass for a second forward pass . The penalty is 5 yards from the spot of the foul, plus loss of down.

7. 3/Goal @ B-10. QB A12 drops back to pass and finding no one open tucks the ball and runs into the end zone for a touchdown. After the play while still in the end zone, QB A12 imitates the slashing of the throat.
RULING:
A, try, B-3, no clock (25), with A, kickoff, A-20, free kick timing (25) OR
A, try, B-18, no clock (25), with A, kickoff, A-35, free kick timing (25)
A ‘throat slash’ is considered an automatic UNS foul. Team B may have the 15-yard penalty enforced at the succeeding kickoff, or on the try.

8. 3/Goal @ B-10. QB A12 drops back to pass and finding no one open tucks the ball and runs into the end zone for a touchdown. After the play while still in the end zone, QB A12 imitates the wiping of his nose.
RULING:
A, try, B-3, no clock (40 and running).
All legal action. A simulated ‘nose wipe’ not directed at an opponent in a taunting or demeaning manner is not a UNS foul.
