Question regarding eligible receiver
« on: October 03, 2016, 01:43:47 PM »
At a game the coach says that they have a play they may run.  The tackle will not be covered on the LOS and will eligible by position (end of line) but ineligible by number (#78).   At the snap, the player will delay and then go backwards and will receive a backwards pass from the QB around 5 - 7 yards behind the LOS.   Is this a legal play?   I can find numbering and position restrictions on a forward pass but can't locate anything on a backwards pass.  Thank you.

Yes.  Anybody can catch a backward pass.  He doesn't even have to be on the end of the line.
