Week 10
« on: November 07, 2013, 09:51:01 PM »
This is the last week of the regular season and it is tough going.  Today's freshman game began at 4:00 pm.  75 degrees at kick off.  Dark and cold when the final horn sounded (I'm sure it was down into the 60's).

At this point in the season, if the temperature got into the 60's here, we would have to call extra official time outs to prevent players from overheating.

Week 12 here in NC, the final week.  Coaches will have conference meetings in the morning to flip coins, draw straws, etc. to break any ties for seeding, select all conference teams and other business.

The state will begin selecting playoff teams and seeding around lunch then the state web site will traditionally crash around 4:00 pm from all the traffic.
Sometime late Saturday evening they will realize they seeded somebody wrong and will have to re-do that bracket.   cRaZy

Sunday night or Monday, we'll get 1st round assignments.

As for weather, absolutely clear skies and sunny, high of 51.  Kickoff temp should be about 40, dropping to 38 by game's end.

Similar in Georgia, week 12, last week of the regular season.  Playoff brackets will be done tonight after scores come in.  I'm sure there will be some unresolved tie in the standings in some class that won't get settled until Monday.  Barring an incredible upset tonight, we already know our seeding and first round opponent.

Should be around 50 at kickoff tonight, I just hope it holds on.  Hate it when it gets any lower than that.

Playoffs in Maine started last weekend and climax the weekend before Thanksgiving. So far the weather has been great, but this is the time of year where the earmuffs and gloves become standard issue for us zebras. Wishing everyone an enjoyable and safe finish to their season. Remember, when we are at a game as a fan and a fellow fan asks : "Was that a good call ??? ????"; your answer should be : (1) "A GREAT CALL ;D!!!" -if it was; or (2) " ::)Er..couldn't really tell from here... ::)he had a better view of it than we did, though...." ;if it wasn't.

Play-offs in Missouri start with week 10 (last Friday) with the Championships being played Thanksgiving weekend at the Edward Jones Dome in StL.

Out of curiosity, how do other states run their play-off schedule?  In MO, our kids play every 4 days on varying days of the week.  With 7 classes (including 1 8 man class), that leaves playoff games being played 4-5 days a week in rounds 2 & 3.  Play-offs are 1 calendar week old today and we're already working our 3rd game tonight.

One game a week, just like regualr season.  Playing every 4 days is not only dumb from a preparation standoint, it's dangerous for kids.  There isn't enough recovery time after a game.  Either shorten the playoffs by a round, or end later.

Ask Troy Aikman and Tony Dungy what they think of the NFL playing Thursday night games.  They are convinced it's hurting players, and quality of play.

1st round of playoffs here this weekend.  Finals are December 5-6 in our local D-1 stadium.

I somehow have the feeling that many of the 101,000+ seats will be vacant.

I did a double check and it's actually every 5 days for class 5 and below.  Class 6 (our largest) remains same as regular season since there are not nearly as many schools in that tournament.

I agree with you though.  I believe it to considerably increase safety issues for the athletes involved.  They abandon their normal recovery period and rehab time when there is such a quick turnaround.  A class 5 team that wins out schedule looks like:  Fri (11/01), Wed (11/06), Mon (11/11) and Sat (11/16) before going to once a week for the last two games, 11/22 & 11/30.

Last night of the regular season. Playoffs start next week. Section Championships are Dec 6. Regionals are Dec 13. State Bowl games are Dec 21.

Playoff brackets will be set on Saturday. First week assignments should be out Sunday afternoon. Assignments for Regionals and State Bowl games have already been made.

High today will be 70. Temp at game time should be around 63.

NC= Playoffs follow normal Friday night routine until the final- UNC-CH, Kenan Stadium, gets a Friday night game and an 11 am Sat. game.  Winston-Salem (Wake-BB&T Field) and NCSU (Carter-Finlay) get 3(11am, 3:00, & 7:30) Saturday games.  The games are rotated at those sites by class.

Takes five rounds and we've pushed out a week.  Last week the finals were first weekend in December, this year its the second.

Our playoffs start this upcoming weekend\.  Virginia divides into six levels based on enrollment, each level split into two divisions (East/West or North/South).  16 teams make it in each division, played one game per week.  Most games in the first two or three rounds will be Fridays, with the state semis traditionally occurring on a Saturday, and the finals on a Saturday.  This is the first year under this system, though, so we'll see how thing shake out.

Our playoffs start this Friday.  Games are scheduled for Friday night unless there is a large distance between the schools and they agree to Saturday (and occasionally a Saturday game if there is a shared stadium situation).

The seven final games (we have six classes, and two championships in the lowest class (a whole other story)) are held in the Georgia Dome spread across Friday and Saturday, Dec 13 and 14.
