S/B 2022 Quiz 5
« on: June 30, 2022, 02:01:57 PM »
Catch me. I'm sure I messed up something.

1. 2/10 @ A-40 when time expires at the end of the 3rd quarter with the home team in possession. Between the end of the 3rd quarter and the start of the 4th quarter, number 21 for the home team is flagged in the team area for Unsportsmanlike Conduct. Player number 21 for the home team was disqualified late in the 3rd quarter for Targeting and legally remained in the team area.
RULING:
2/25, A-40, snap (25).
The 15-yard penalty for A21’s UNS foul is penalized at the succeeding spot in the 4th period, taking the ball to the A-25. The down number remains unaffected. A21 may remain in the team area, since he has not committed two UNS fouls. A21 is ejected, per AR 2-27-12-3, and must leave the playing enclosure.

2. 4/10 @ B-15 in the first possession series of the 1st extra period. Team A’s field goal attempt is untouched beyond the neutral zone until B17 muffs it at the five-yard line. A75 recovers at the three-yard line.
RULING:
A, 1/G, B-5 B-3, no clock (25).
Team A’s recovery of the ball that has been touched by Team B is legal, and Team A's possession series continues with a first down at the spot of the recovery.

3. 4/G @ B-5. A55’s legal snap is muffed by A12 and back A44 recovers and advances the ball into the end zone.
RULING:
A, Try, B-3, no clock (40 and running).
Touchdown for Team A. The ball was loose from a backward pass, which may be recovered and advanced by players of either team.

4. 1/10 @ B-15 during the first possession series of the 1st extra period. B10 intercepts a legal forward pass on his six-yard line, runs laterally giving up yardage, and downs the ball in his own end zone.
RULING:
B, kickoff 1/10, EP25, no clock (25).
Safety, 2 points for Team A. B10 foolishly carried the ball into his own end zone and the ball was declared dead behind his goal line, and his carrying of the ball into his end zone was the impetus that put the ball behind his goal line. That results in a safety, 2-points for Team A. Team A’s possession series has ended, and Team will put the ball in play at the designated 25 yard line of the Extra Period.

5. Team A scores a TD as time expires in the 4th quarter and the score is Team A 27 and Team B 28. As Team A lines up for the try, they have 5 men in the backfield at the snap. Kicker A90 kicks the ball through for what appears to be a successful try. After the try, B21 is guilty of a dead ball personal foul.
RULING:
A, try, B-4, no clock (25).
The penalty for Team A’s illegal formation foul is enforced at the previous spot, taking the ball to the B-8 (assuming the previous spot was the B-3). Then the penalty for B21’s UNR is enforced ½ the distance from the spot where Team A’s penalty leaves the ball, taking the ball to the B-4, where the try will be repeated.

6. 1/10 @ B-30. A44 runs for 5 yards and is tackled inbounds. During the down A22’s helmet comes off (no helmet foul by the defense) and A45 goes down with an injury. When the clock is stopped it reads 0:58 in the fourth quarter.
RULING:
A, 2/5, B-25, 0:48 (4), ready (25).
When there is less than one minute remaining the 4th period, and a player loses his helmet (no helmet foul) and he or a teammate is injured, the opponent has the option of a 10-second subtraction from the game clock. Since we don’t know the score, or the status of remaining time-outs for either team, we can’t say positively what Team B would want, but, assuming they will accept the 10SS, the game clock will also start on the referee’s signal. A22 may not participate in the next down. However, If Team A has a time out remaining, they may avoid the 10SS and A22 may participate in the next down, by taking a time out.

7. 1/10 @ B-30 late in the second quarter. At the snap the game clock reads 0:45. During the play, A55 loses his helmet and A77 is flagged for holding at the B-25. The ball carrier is tackled inbounds after gaining 7 yards. The game clock reads 0:38 when stopped after the down.
RULING:
A, 1/15, B-35, ready (25).
Team B will accept the penalty for the holding foul, penalized from the spot of the foul (per 3 & 10). Because the helmet coming off is NOT the only reason for the game clock to stop, there is no option for a 10 second subtraction from the game clock. The game clock will start on the referee’s signal, and A55 may not participate in the next down, unless Team A has, and takes, a charged team time out.

8. 4/4 @ B-16. Ball carrier A22 goes out of bounds at the B-14 and B77 commits a dead ball personal foul immediately after the ball is out of bounds.
RULING:
B, 1/10, B-7, snap (25).
The natural result of the down is that Team A failed to make the line-to-gain, and Team B is awarded possession of the ball at the dead-ball spot. The dead-ball foul by B77 is then penalized ½ the distance to the goal, and where Team B’s series begins, 1/10. And every Team A coach on the planet will scream bloody murder that they should have the ball, with a first down, after the penalty against B. Sorry. Not the way it works.

1. A21 is ejected and must leave the team area. A player who has been disqualified for targeting and then commits an unsportsmanlike conduct foul gets his disqualification “upgraded” to an ejection, even if it’s his first UNS. AR 2-27-12-III.

2 and 4 are, I’m assuming, typos. You say in your explanation of 2 that it’s A’s ball at the spot of recovery, which is correct. But in your answer you say it’s their ball at the B-5 instead of the B-3. And in 4 you say kickoff, even though it is in extra periods. (But even in regulation it would be a free kick, but not a kickoff).

I just knew there was something that said he is ejected, and I searched and searched the RULES - to no avail - for something that said he is ejected. As significant as this is, it ought to be in the 2-27-12, as item "c".

Yeah, dumb-A typos.
Gonna go back and make corrections.
Thanks.
