A question came up at our recent board meeting.
QB A7 drops the direct snap picks up the ball looks for receivers, seeing none he rolls out outside of the FBZ and throws a forward pass out of bounds beyond the precious spot.

Does Table 7-5 Exception 1 apply?
Would this be IG, A&7 dropped the direct snap thus we cannot legally ground the pass?

No. He was the only player to possess the ball after the snap ended.

Legal play.  The person who possesses the snap gets the exception.  Does not matter that he muffed the snap.

We can't confuse this with spiking the ball to stop the clock.....

IF QB muffs the snap , then spikes it = IG

IF QB muffs the snap, then rolls outside of FBZ and tosses to grandma in bleacher beyone the LOS " OK
