Under NFHS rules, A remains in team control during a pass.This is because a player of A last controlled the ball before the pass. The NBA rulebook also says that a team is in control when a team is holding, passing, or dribbling the ball. NCAA Men's Rule 4-9.2 states that "A team shall be in control when: b. A live ball is being passed between teammates including when the pass is muffed by the receiving teammate". NCAA Women's Rule 4-8.2.b states that "A team shall be in control when: b. While a live ball is being passed between teammates". Essentially in all rules codes, there is team control while the ball is being passed.
The one difference in NCAA men's and NBA basketball is that a foul committed by the offense after a ball is deflected is not an offensive foul or player/team control foul, because in those codes, team control is lost after the ball is deflected. This means that if a defender deflects a pass and is fouled while trying to reach the ball in an NCAA men's or NBA game, and his team is in the bonus, he gets to shoot free throws. In any other level, the defender's team is merely awarded possession.
