OT Penalty
« on: November 16, 2014, 04:55:07 PM »
OT Period 1.  Score tied 21-21.  A has first possession of OT.

A 4/G @ B-25.

A's field goal attempt is blocked and rolls down to the B-5 where it becomes dead.  During the kick, B44 blocks A81 in the back at the B-10.

What are the options?

Foul during a loose ball play.  No PSK in OT.  Enforce from previous spot, 4th and goal from the B15.

Really no other viable option.  A could decline and give B the ball, but why?

It would depend on the state's overtime rules.

If we're going by the ones listed in the rule book then we have a rule change to account for.

In the OT procedures listed, 10-4-3 is modified to say that PSK enforcement is not applicable under this procedure.

Therefore under 2-33-1-a, we have a loose ball play.

Basic spot is the Previous spot.

A foul by B beyond the basic spot is enforced from the basic spot under the All-but-one principle.

A 4th and Goal from the B15

Also a good case play to point out why enforcing from 'where it hurts most' is incorrect.  That line of thinking would have us enforcing half the distance from the B10.
