Ball Placement After Free Kick ?
« on: August 14, 2023, 02:29:19 PM »
Free Kick , R1 and R2 back to receive. R1 signals Fair Catch and R2 does not signal Fair Catch.
R2 who did not signal Fair Catch catches the Free Kick in flight on the left hash mark.
He asks the BJ to put the ball on the right hash mark to start their next series .
Do we deny that request or do we grant that request ?

6-5-3: Only the receiver who gives a valid signal is afforded protection. If, after a receiver signals, the catch is made by a teammate, it is not a fair catch but the ball becomes dead.

You can only specify where, between the hash marks, the ball will next be put in play after a fair catch but not other received kicks. (4-3-6)

To answer the question directly, no, you would not grant the request. The ball will be next put in play at the spot where it became dead.
