Travel Distance
« on: November 15, 2011, 09:07:07 PM »
Informal poll here...
How far do you travel (roundtrip) on average for Junior High games? and for Senior High games each week?
What was the longest distance you travelled this 2011 season?

What percentage of your contest in a season pay you gas/mileage/or travel pay?

Varsity, the longest was 250 miles round trip. JV usually no more than 60...

A couple pay flat $25...one does pay miles round trip. Good thing it's the long one  pHiNzuP

doing 3hr to 6 hr round trip...No extra pay for gas and getting $23 a game.  Normally 2 or 3 games in a day.

I work in an adjoining county than my games, so "round trip" numbers would be really out of whack for me.  Numbers are from my home.

Varsity: avg is 30 miles from my home.
Some closer at 6 miles, some further at 40 miles.  We have a few schools 90 miles from my home.

For anyting below Var, the assn tries to keep us close to home. So avg from home is 7-10 miles for anything besides varsity.

No matter where the school is, we get a flat fee of $15 to travel.  Since some schools are close & some far, the travel works out to our favor at the end of the season.

I work on one of our SV crews, so we intentionally go long distances to cover out-of-town games for our chapter. The longest one would either have to be to Kyle(69) or Nixon(76), TX which kind of depends where we are calculating from. For varsity, the furthest I went was out to Kerrvile which is 64 mi away.

Had one game of 100 miles one way.  The rest were 20 or less.  Can't complain about that.

This year most V games in the 30 to 50 mile range however 2 games were 70 and 75 miles. JV 5 to 25 miles and JH games 1 to 15 miles. No milage at any level.

You're obviously in my chapter.  We can always go to Rocksprings, about 270 miles round-trip.

Many chapters have far away places they travel for games. The ones that really suck are the 4:30 pm three game set subvarsity games that are 120-150 miles away.

Not only do you have to take off work really early but you get home really late.....................

Been there, done that and already wore out the t-shirt.

Yep, I am. I went to Rocksprings Rock Ridge for a scrimmage this year.

Was it the real Rock Ridge or the fake Rock Ridge?  When clearwall and his men come riding in to work at the real Rock Ridge, they'll actually be working at the fake Rock Ridge, but they'll think that it's the real Rock Ridge, but we'll know that it's the fake Rock Ridge.  ;)

I'm probably crazier than most. Average Friday night is usually over 100 miles each way (by choice).

Last week of the regular season... 360 miles each way... 720 miles round trip... all for 164 George Washington's, including travel. On the bright side, the game was for the conference championship, it was played at a facility many colleges would kill for, and there were likely well over 10,000 butts in the seats. Now I don't care who you are... that's fun!  :thumbup

The fartherest I've gone this year is a 19 beer trip, after the game of course.

If you haven't figured it out yet, it's from the movie Blazing Saddles.

I don't work junior high.

Our assigner limits our travel to 100 miles each way. Longest for me this year was 65 miles but took about 2 hours of drive time. No travel pay at all.

Subvarsity (JV on down) it is about 30 miles round trip on avg from the house.  Tack another 25miles or so from the office if i have to go in on those days (I can normally work from home during the season).

Some districts pay miles, some dont.

Varsity, avg in town games is approximately the same 30-40 miles round trip.  Our out of town games can round trip in the 250-270 range.  One guy gets paid miles (we carpool) the rest of us get a $10 rider.
