Did the assistant coach just say that
« on: October 05, 2015, 10:08:12 AM »
Had the most obvious roughing the punter call Friday night.   ^flag  Assistant coach said the punter moved into the defender when he kicked the ball :o ???  Head coach just shook his head and told the assistant to shut up and go sit down.

There are so many times I wish I could just stare at an assistant coach like he's got two heads until he realizes what he just said. I don't think I'd be justified in calling an officials timeout to do that, however.

My favorite one from last year:  "How come you wait for the QB to throw the ball before flagging us for an ineligible downfield?"   ::)

When an assistant says something to me, I look at him and then to the head coach, "Head Coach do you have something to say." Usually the answer is no. Usually also the last time I hear from the particular assistant.

Many moons ago I had a particular assistant get rather chatty/critical over a several minute period.

Me- "Mr. Head Coach- I'm hearin' a lot of gripin', but it don't seem to be comin' from you?!"
HC- "WHO'S talkin' at the officials?!!!!!  Only I TALK TO THE OFFICIALS!!!!"

And peace was restored to the kingdom..............

I've always thought that assistant coaches would make great officials. Most have the uncanny ability to see holding penalties on a majority of plays.  :sTiR:

Good friend who is a current D-II head coach and, at one time, coached the D-line. Every play: "They're holding! They're holding!"  ^flag

He switched sides of the ball one summer and at the first fall scrimmage reminded me his O-line "never held."

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and holding is in the eyes of the D-coach :)!
