Loose ball or not?
« on: September 10, 2016, 07:10:52 AM »
Happened last night. Team B holding A1 right at the snap until A1 can break loose. LJ throws flag. A2 then launches pass to A1 who is tackled at Bs 14. We marked it half the distance. 1st and goal at Bs 7. BJ chimes in a couple plays later we may have enforced it wrong. He's thinking since it was a psass it should be enforced as a loose ball play, which means A would deny the penalty and take the results of the play. Key factor, the holding was well before the pass was thrown. What say you?

Correct. On a loose ball play enforcement, it includes the action up to what makes it a loose ball play. Enforce ABO, would be previous spot as it is a foul by the defense. Quite rare IMO to use succeeding spot.

While there might be a rare exception, the only succeeding spot foul you will get on a loose ball play would be roughing the passer.  Your BJ was right, but a little too late.
