 Reading the posts, the consensus is that in short yardage situations we should allow the defense to line up in neutral zone.  Should we give the offense the same advantage?

Whose consensus, what consensus?  No two plays in the history of football have been TOTALLY EXACTLY alike, so why try and search for a "one size fits all"?  Remembering we're discussing NFHS Football (High School & Youth) "Preventive Officiating", that DOES NOT provide either team with an unfair advantage, & is based on specifically what is observed in a specific instance can be appropriate.
