If a team has a foot to foot split and they run an unbalanced set with a fourth down lineman, is he considered to be in the FBZ?

If you're asking whether or not an unbalanced line something like this can have all of the lineman within the free blocking zone I would say yes, provided that in our judgment the spacing is close enough for the 3rd player from the snapper to be in the free blocking zone.  Could also be the TE if the splits are tight enough.  Another of the judgment calls we need to make.  Just keep in mind that the zone is centered on the ball, not the middle lineman.

From a practical standpoint, I’d judge him to be OK.  Remember, he’s legal if any part of his body is in the FBZ at the snap.
