I think I got this one right???

3/10 from the B20. A11 passes in the flat to A8 who runs straight ahead for the goal line. He is met by B56 and B44 at the one, causing a fumble at the 1 yd line. The ball goes into the EZ and is bouncing WHEN...B55 runs towards it and bats it forward through the endzone.  ^flag

After enforcement, A's ball at the 1/2.

Correct?
If you didn't see it, you can't call it

If B bats it forward, wouldn't that be back in the field of play?

I'm pretty sure he meant forward as in the same direction as a forward pass would be...
Back on topic, He got it right. B foul while ball is loose during a run. Go back to end of related run (where A lost possession) and enforce from there.

Correct.  Always step through it when you're not sure.  First step is most important.
1) Classify the play - run
2) Determine the basic spot - end of the run
3) Where was the foul and by who? - Defense beyond the basic spot.
4) Enforce with all but one - Half the distance from the basic spot.

B 1/G @ 1/2 yard line.

Isn’t it legal to bat a loose ball backwards (towards your own goal line)? Is this what happened? What would the ruling be if the ball was accidentally pushed out of bounds beyond the back of the end zone? Wouldn’t that be a touchback?! I guess I don’t know if I’m reading this correctly. Thoughts?

You can bat a pass or fumble in flight, and bat a scrimmage kick backward if no player is in position to receive it. You can also bat a grounded scrimmage kick backward. You cannot bat a grounded fumble.

Unless it's a backward pass batted forward by the passing team. See 9-7-3 or UMaine / UNH game in mid-70's highlighted on NFL Today.  ;D ^TD

I know I've told this story before, but I still get a chuckle  ;D when I think about it......

It was a cold, wet November day as my buddies and I sipped some antifreeze in prep for the annual rivalry game between UMaine-UNH game. The field was a mud bowl and, entering the 4th quarter, was scoreless. UMaine had the ball around UNH's 15 with 4th down and with Coach Jack Bicknell, who later coached Doug Fluite @ BC. The field goal team entered, our kicker was an excellent vollyball player.....

(1) The holder pitched the ball up at a backward angle.
(2) The kicker spiked the ball towards the EZ.
(3) The TE slopped towards the ball in the EZ.
(4) UNH had one player back, he wasn't interested in slopping into the EZ.
(5) The TE picked up the ball AND......

We all leaped to our feet pHiNzuP pHiNzuP pHiNzuP some fell  :puke: :puke: (alcohol may have been a cocontrituting factor)

EPILOGUE; The following day, NFL Today showed the play . The following year, both NCAA & NFHS made the play illegal. >:( >:(
