Kickoff OOB inside the 25
« on: October 14, 2015, 07:34:44 AM »
After a scoring play, there are three (3) DB PFs against B/R. That sets up this.

Supposedly*, the kick from the 15 was an attempted onside which just went OOB, and supposedly*, there was a misapplication of the rules that resulted in R being given the ball at the 35.

(*supposedly = hearsay from reddit. There is no evidence of what happened after the kick).

In any case, assuming the kick goes OOB at the 3, R's options are:

a) 5 yard penalty and rekick
b) Take the ball at the 3 (OOB spot)
c) Take the ball 25 yards from the previous spot -- or can they?

The 25 yards is not a penalty, so it's not enforced half the distance, so 25 yards would put the ball in the endzone. However, Case Book play 6.1.8 Situation H doesn't list the 25 yard spot as an option. So if the "inbounds spot 25 yards beyond the previous spot" is not on the field of play, is R not allowed to take that option?

Correct.  The "25 yards in advance of the kick" is not penalty yardage, it's a spot.  If the spot isn't available, it isn't an option.

In this case, it's take the ball where it went OOB, or 5 yard penalty and kick it again.
