Free kick after a "fair catch"
« on: August 25, 2012, 09:25:42 PM »
Something that just occured to me during discussion in another thread.  While a punt is in the air, R1 gives a fair catch signal, but the ball is caught by R2.  We all know that the ball is dead when R2 catches the ball.  Do we allow R the opportunity to free kick?

The wording of 6-5-3 states "If, after a receiver signals, the catch is made by a teammate, it is not a fair catch but the ball becomes dead."   So R has to snap the ball?

Yes.  A fair catch has not been made so there is no option.
