Raises some really good points, also has some tired tropes too, but I found it interesting... especially the accuracy vs consistency part. It's a balance for sure, and they will do what the owners want, to put an entertaining product on the field. Officiating has a give and take to it, to meet that, while still ensuring equity and fairness.

Interesting article.  I thought this quote was very interesting coming from an assistant coach.  Maybe they should take the test with the officials and see who scores higher.

“The hard part now is we probably have the best rules and game management [staff members] we’ve had in the league, from a team perspective,” one NFC assistant coach said. “The teams and the broadcasters know so much more than the actual officials."  “That’s what’s scary.”
