If no one moves to recover the ball, or it goes OOB, a fumble belongs to the offense, a kick belongs to the receivers.

My question to you guys is there are at least two differences between a fumble and a kick that hasn't crossed the LOS, can you name them?

Is clock status one of them? It is in NCAA.

Good job, 'Bama, also the simultaneous recovery of a fumble belongs to the offense while a kick would belong to the defense. On the personal side, there's a good chance that Jacksonville of Alabama will be traveling in a couple of week to the frozen tundra to play the Univ. of Maine. If you have any contacts there, tell them to pack their woolies!

Only if it was a quick kick on 3rd down or less, and was recovered by K but not advanced for a first down. Clock would then start on RFP.

OK, in NCAA the game clock starts on the snap following any legal scrimmage kick play, no matter what happens after the kick (so if K/A recovers behind the LOS and advances for a first down, the clock still starts on the snap).

NFHS would be the same if K obtained a 1st down. If not - running into kicker, 5 yds. - didn't create a 1st down and the ball didn't go OOB or FC made, the clock would start on RFP. Our rationale is that K would probably kick again and keep the kicking unit out on field. It was our opinion that B>A,A>K,B>R usually results in massive substitutions and a snap start allows a little more leeway.

Unfortunately, JSU got knocked out by Kennesaw State 60-51 in OT. No woolies this year.

The FCS selection show on ESPN last Sunday had JSU hosting East Tenn. this Saturday. I believe Kennesaw State got a first round (like Maine) bye. The winner of the JSU/ETU game would then travel to our frozen tundra. Yesterday we got
5" of snow, tomorrow with the wind-chill it is forecasted to be below the donut (Mainer term for below zero). I'll be the red hat (guy that monitors TV timeouts) for that game and have my woolies ready. :)
