News Feeds - idiots
« on: January 08, 2024, 11:27:00 AM »
I don’t pay much attention to those stupid news feeds that you see “on the Internet,” related to football, and particularly football officiating, because they are all driven by the betting/gambling industry that has raised its ugly head. But, there is one out there today that impunes the integrity of the officials working the Detroit game yesterday, regarding a measurement. They use the video from TV, that is at least at a 20 degree angle (maybe more) to the direct line through the nose of the ball, parallel to the yard lines. In that view, you can see space between the ball and the stake. Of course. The view is at an angle to the true line. If you were to move the camera angle to the correct line through the nose of the ball (parallel to the yard lines), you would see the nose of the ball within the width of the stake rod - that’s a first down. Idiots.

Sadly, one thing remains true, the real IDIOTS, are those gullible fools who pay serious attention to the "news feed" idiots.  Your caution about the "Betting/Gambling" industry, unfortunately, is right on target as this is an insideous threat, that ultimately ruins anything it touches.  The increased gaudy, inticing advertising on TV and print is designed, intended and unfortunately usually successful, in sucking the intended life out of anything it promotes & gets involved in.

Sports, by their challenging nature, have long been a prime target and has apparently breached whatever protections the general News/Entertainment defences previously relied on. Similar to when we started draining raw sewerage through our waterways.
