2 or 2 1/4 inch stripes shirts
« on: November 13, 2014, 06:29:29 PM »
Has your state or assoc. switched over to the wider stripes shirts? Trying to get a count on how many States have made the switch or planning to switch over the next year. Thanks

Texas switches in 2016 but you can use in 2015 of whole crew wears.  It will be a 2 5/8 in stripe.  (OK that part is BS)

California has not officially switched but some associations have. My did not switch this year but we might be next year. I normally by a new shirt every year. This year I didn't just in case we switch next year.

Last year VA made them "optional" as long as the entire crew matched (but you could only work a playoff game in the wide stripes).  They were mandatory this year.

In Maine, next year is optional with current shirts a fallback if entire crew doesn't have them (we assign individuals to games, not crews). In 2016 the wider stripes will be required. Personal fear : the wider stripes will make me look shorter and fatter.

Southern CA went to 2.25" shirts option last year, mandatory at all levels (youth-varsity) this season.

How long until we're just wearing black shirts and black track pants? Blech.

There was nothing wrong with 1-inch stripes. Especially now that television is in HD. Why is the zeitgeist insisting on reducing the number of stripes?

Maybe it's just a perverse feedback loop, where college tries to imitate the NFL, high school tries to imitate college, and the NFL keeps trying to look *UN*like the others. So there's no equilibrium.

I wish guys would actually buy those so we could wear them!

PA standard is Navy.  Powder blue (blue collar) is optional.  Not too many have more colors than that.

I haven't heard anything... I would venture to guess NO.

I really don't see any need to change for the sake of looking like college, personally

Actually, there's a much more practical reason.  With the conversion to black pants (which most officials agree is the next best thing to sliced bread) wing officials are much harder to pick out of the crowd on sidelines, especially in front of team box areas.

The wider stripes (College, semi-pro) make it much easier, and quicker, to pick out the wing officials and their signals. Given the options of going back to knickers, or white pants (NEVER happen) or wider stripes, making the stripes wider actually works and seems a much better choice.

Is that actuality the reasoning?  Because I do have trouble finding my wings from time to time.

SD & Al,
Is there talk of your States/Assoc. going to the wider stripes?? Any other States or Assoc. talking about going wider?

That's Al's rationale.  I think the rest of us believe it is the greedy corporate boogerheads (courtesy of Bloom County) finding a way to raise profits on an otherwise stagnant business model.

This will merely drive the NCAA/CFO to come up with their own design so as not to be aligned with us bottom feeders at the HS level >:D

However, I will freely admit, I was wrong about the black pants and will forever beg forgiveness of Dick Honig for ever doubting him :bOW

My only trouble finding the wings is tall players on a very high pitched field and short wings.  ;D

In a previous life I may have been a bird.
If I was a bird, I don't believe I'd have a problem finding my wings.
As a human, finding my wings has never been an issue.
As a Zebra z^, it has.
Good point, AL -even though you might be a Yankee fan. :)
