enforcement spot
« on: August 30, 2013, 02:43:58 PM »
A is running and gets hits via helmet to helmet, flag is thrown but he does not go down, he then runs toward his own goal line for for 5 yards trying to evade tacklers but is tackled...question is do we enforce from flag or from end of run?

What is the basic spot for a running play, and where did the foul occur in relation to the basic spot?

I assume you are referring to an illegal helmet contact or spearing on B. The 15 yards would be tacked onto the end of the run. Conversely, a foul by A at the same spot would be enforced from the spot of the foul under "all-but-one". Rationale : A's foul may have enabled him to gain the extra yardage.

Not knowing NF rules - Is it really the foul spot if the foul was on A? He lost yardage - so 3&1 would be end of run, right?

James -  :-[My bad, I saw the "went 5 yards after..." but I didn't absorb, "towards his OWN goal.." Yes ,the enforcement spot would be from the end of the run; it would have been the spot of the foul if it had occurred BEHIND the end of the run. Thanks for the correction.

Have another cup of coffee, Ralph. Under ABO, fouls by B are enforced from the basic spot, never the spot of the foul.

Sorry, Maven, for not being clear. I was referring to my post that stated ,"Conversely a foul by A at the same spot..."; which was what James was correcting me on. I'll pass on the coffee, but a piping hot bowl of lobster chowder usually clears the cobwebs! eAt&
