Someone on my crew was watching a game that was being played in Ohio and he said that the announcer mentioned that there is no play clock during games. Anyone care to elaborate?

Either someone needs to watch more closely or they need to put that announcer on their pay-no-mind list. Of course there's a play clock, there's nothing different here regarding that.

Perhaps your potentially inattentive friend was watching the St. Xavier-St. John Bosco game on ESPN3 last week when John Bosco was up by more than 30 points in the 2nd half and the OH-specific running clock rule was in effect. It still has a play clock, but the game clock will generally keep running except on COP, injury, and a few other things.

Two games so far this season.  Both announcers announced a 15 yd penalty and an "automatic first down" on DPI calls.  Controversy was averted in both instances because the 15 yards put A beyond the LTG.  I suppose that "outside the tackle box" is next.
