Enforcement on multiple run play
« on: October 23, 2016, 06:24:37 AM »
First and 10 at the A-40. A1 advances to the B-40, where he fumbles. During A1’s run or during the fumble A2 commits a holding foul at the B-35.  A2 then recovers the fumble at the B-38 and advances to the B-8.

(1) During the tackle at the B-8 there is a PF facemask by B1.
or
(2) After the ball is dead, B1 commits a dead ball PF (late hit) on A2.

What would be the result after penalty enforcement of these two plays?
It's easy to get the players, getting 'em to play together, that's the hard part. - Casey Stengel

In (1) possession never changed during the down and both teams fouled.  By rule, the fouls offset and the down is replayed.

In (2), both fouls will be enforced.   The holding foul will be enforced from the end of the related run under Three-and-one enforcement, taking the ball back to the 50.  Then, B's foul will be enforced from there, 15 yards to the B35 where Team A will have 1st and 10.
