Penalty Enforcement - End of the related run
« on: October 19, 2016, 08:49:55 PM »
What team A or team B  penalties (if any) would be enforced from the end of the related run (the run in progress at the time the flag was thrown)?

Think last play before the end of the half or end of the game where team A is throwing multiple backward passes as they move downfield beyond the LOS

Almost all of them? Basic spot for fouls during a running play is the end of the related run. Rule 10-2-2-d-1.

It is easier to list the fouls possible during a down with only multiple running plays which aren't enforced from the basic spot: non-player fouls, unfair acts, contacting an official, using tobacco.

So, one of the subjects being discussed at our meeting last night was beanbag use and it was noted that no one bags a backward pass beyond the LOS these days.  I got the attached "When to use the beanbag" list from a link on Refstripes (years ago) and was wondering about #3.  I found the the 2nd attachment (MysterySolved) last night and it doesn't have the backward pass mentioned.

If we don't bag a backward pass beyond the LOS and we have a downfield penalty during the run before the backward pass, how do we locate the basic spot for penalty enforcement?

Poor mechanics would then force you to make an educated guess, if nobody remembers the exact yard line.

Does anyone have a current "Beanbag Mechanics" document that is an improvement on the previous attached ones?  And, should we be bagging a downfield backward pass as a regular mechanic?

IFAF manual of officiating has one list here http://www.myiafoa.org/mechanics/mofo16/bean.htm

What was the reason officials gave for not beanbagging a spot of a backward pass beyond the NZ?

Thanks Kalle.  The discussion was due to some confusion / misunderstanding regarding the differences between end of the down, end of the run, and end of the related run.
