Proposed rule change for play clock
« on: March 02, 2018, 10:19:59 PM »
Looks like the NCAA may start the 40 second play clock after a TD, to get the teams on the field quickly for the Try.  Same after a kickoff.  The officials will have to hold the snapper until the D has had full opportunity to get on the field.
If the NCAA passes this, my guess is that the UIL will NOT accept this - they’ll make an exception for this rule - keep things as they are.  Hope not, but I’d bet so.

I agree, needed, but with most things that are needed, the UIL will not accept it. I think the THSCA will not want this.

We had the exception for the 40 second clock and then the UIL removed the exception.  There was a lot of grumbling at first but now I haven't come across any coach who doesn't like the 40 second clock.  I'm actually in the boat where I think the UIL will not make an exception.  As of late they have been going along with the timing rules except for the 10 second subtraction rules.  It will certainly cut down that extra time to huddle after the kickoff where we have to get them on the field.  This will pretty much take care of that by itself.  It will pretty much eliminate celebrations after the TD as well.  Celebrate all you want but the clock is ticking.  The real fun will be when it's a LONG TD.  The referee is still 80 yards upfield.  Even funner is when it's a team B TD from 90 yards away.  No time to catch your breath that's for sure.

R would always have the option to restart the play clock if feels necessary, or way to winded after running 99 yards.   LOL

Thankfully, NFHS has not gone the route of the 40 second clock, BUT it seems like a good idea to get back into action a lot quicker, at every level, after a score.  There really shouldn't be a need for extra time to gather the respective KO teams, quickly review plans and get back on the field.
