PI Out of Bounds?
« on: November 10, 2018, 07:21:17 AM »
Had an odd sort of play last night. In the corner of the endzone two yards wide of the sideline I had (by definition) pass interference. I know catchability is not a factor in determining whether PI has occurred or not but A's ability to move toward, catch or bat the pass (although that was further out of bounds) was impeded. I came home and saw nothing in the rules that would indicate to me it was in fact not PI. I couldn't bring myself to toss the flag. Am I missing something in the rulebook?

As I understand your post, the receiver was OOB and came back in bounds to catch the pass when the PI happened? If that is correct, you would have had two fouls. DPI and IP when the receiver came back on the field. The penalties would offset and the down would have been replayed. If the contact happened OOB, it is nothing unless the contact was a PF.

What did B exactly do to cause PI?  I know you said impeded, but I am curious as to how he impeded the A player.
If you didn't see it, you can't call it
