This maybe should be started in the Texas section but I watched Home Team last night on Netflix and it was really funny.  It's about Sean Payton going to Texas while he was on NFL Probation for Bounty-gate and he ends up coaching his son's youth football team.  Watching it from an officials point of view, I saw ALOT of blindside blocks with no flags being thrown and the officials all wore shorts.  I recommend the movie for a lot of laughs based on a true story!

I believe the suspension was for the 2012 season, long before blindside blocks became illegal in Texas. Even the youth leagues in Texas follow NCAA rules (with UIL-like exceptions), because that is what the high schools use. So, no, you wouldn't see any flags being thrown for BSB in 2012.

well then the movie was pretty realistic but given the way I was trained (beginning in 2019) it was pretty surprising to see those blind side blocks there must have been alot more injuries in the day.  If coaches would only coach to push with the arms in those situations because that's all you really need to move a player not expecting any contact.

Safety is a relatively new term to the game of football.   A BSB in the day would get you a sticker or two on your helmet, Kudos at the next practice and cheers when watching the film.   Those were the days of:

In high school during the off season, the coaches would pit the linemen against the backs in military football.   Anything goes and BSB was the best of the game (no equipment, just gym shorts and tees).   

Coaches would grab your facemask and twist your head 180 degrees or slap you on the side of the head hard enough to make your ears ring.   Not wishing for the old days but it was a much more physical game then but the players were not nearly as large.  With the size and speed of today's players, the hits had to be tuned down.

We have a Hudl clip from my son's senior year where he performed a beautiful crack back in a scrimmage.  I remind him occasionally that it would be illegal now.

I played nose guard in HS. Not very big 180 lbs. I played drums so my handwork was pretty fast. I took full advantage of the "HEAD SLAP".
