Acheivement unlocked Wednesday night
« on: September 13, 2024, 08:03:32 AM »
What a night we had on Wednesday.  Despite trying to preventive officiate, by halftime we as a crew had:

* On white, two sideline warnings, the latter of which earned them a five yard walk
* On green, one sideline warning, followed a few plays later by a 15-yard sideline interference
* An aiding the runner call (only the 2nd I've seen in 21 years)
* Three UNS fouls, including one on a green assistant coach

And for the first time, I fired a ball boy.  After the green coach picked up the UNS foul, the (kid) ballboy started screaming "Man, these guys are getting paid off by (name of white team)."  Since he was just a kid, and not actually part of the team, I told the coach "I don't care what if you keep him on the sideline or not, but he's not touching a football for us the rest of the night."

Had it been a player, or an adult coach or trainer, I'd have popped them for 15, but I wasn't going to punish the players for something a bystander said.  I pulled the kid aside at halftime, with a coach present, and told him "You don't attack my integrity on the field.  I'd sooner you talk about my dead momma than say I'm being dishonest."

At least the second half went better.

Well handled IMO. Questioning my or my crewmate’s integrity is an instant USC in my book; however the ball boy is pretty much a spectator like you said so would be extremely harsh to penalize a team for that comment.

I don't think any of those individually are anything special, but all of those in one game is like seeing Bigfoot. Kudos. Too bad you didn't also get the FK after awarded FC, then you could have simply quit after the most unicorn of all unicorn games.

good grief.  usually one sideline warning stops that nonsense.  same with one USC.

i have had one aiding runner called iun a game I worked,  year 23.  youy are ahead of my pace...  pretty close to a unicorn.  Our state guy is pushing to call this on the tush push play if we see it.  it would have to be VERY obvious for me to do so.

Only one I ever called, two linemen lined up in back field picked up runner and threw him over line into end zone.

Yep we all had a flag on it.

On pushing the pile, we in Maine just blow the play dead once it occurs. The runner's forward progress has stopped once the push has begun. Coaches were advised of this interp a few years back, accepted it, and now it rarelly occurs. IMHO, it's more of a rugby scrum or antics on a frat house lawn after a keg party and not part of football.
