For high school, JV game. Worked white hat for the first time in about a decade last night. (Normally a deep official, despite my user name.)
I’d forgotten that the hardest part of working a game at R is mental, not physical. As a back/side/field judge, if there’s a three yard dive play, I get a few seconds to relax. As a WH, I don’t get that same break, I was absolutely exhausted mentally by the end of the night.
Didn’t help that it was a six man crew and I had two rookies and one second year official, either, though all in all, it went pretty well for a week one game.
