Heated Rivalry Including Threats of Violence (online)
« on: October 13, 2026, 09:56:51 AM »
Don't know if any of you saw this in the news, probably didn't make national news.  Had a varsity game between neighboring communities, communities that frequently have issues with crime.  We had the game at 2pm so that we could have it in daylight and reduce the risk of shady stuff going on.  It's always in daytime..fyi.  Started the game, no big deal.  Had the usual, multiple US and PF calls, but kicked no one out.  Wasn't a very close game after first half so that did curb some of the hostilities.

After the game, we found out that there were threats posted online that LE knew about, threats saying they were going to come in and shoot up the game.  LE was on-site, about 10 I could see at all times.  Apparently, LE pulled a suspicious vehicle over on school grounds, the vehicle had 4, 20-24yo males in it, 8 semi-auto and full auto weapons and a backpack full of magazines of loaded ammo.  Three were arrested and one fled, he still has not been apprehended.  Now I do appreciate LE handling this, but what are your thoughts?  Should I as the white-hat have been notified of this situation going on on schoool grounds?  The field house where both teams dress is right off the endzone.  I probably would have suspended the game and moved the teams into the field house at least until the suspects were in arrested.  But I don't know what I would've done with the fans.  But, I did nothing because I was not informed of this situation until the next day.  Feel I/we should have been informed.   Welcome to 2026!

Flashing back to my daze in Hartford,Connecticut in the late '60s,two of their inner-city schools had a vicious rivalry. When they played each other in basketball, they would play in an empty gym. Only the bus drivers and the officials would know the location of which gym in the area the game would be played at.  :!#

IMHO, high school sports provide a great releaf from the anger in the world today  :puke:. To allow that to creep into our sports today is a sad event.  pi1eOn

Absolutely agree.  Today's youth are exposed to far more, and dangerous, suggestion & indoctrination.  The ONLY corrective path remains the advice and guidance of rational parents to counteract and avoid the temptations of THEIR CHILDREN's exposure to increased negative and irrational behaviors BEFORE SERIOUS EXTERNAL correction methods are required and necessary.  The ABSOLUTE responsibility of parents hasn't changed, but the job seems to have gotten a lot more CHALLENGING and demanding, requiring more consistent observation .
