Looks like the B and the F pinched in too quickly. (It DID look like Team A was just about to recover the kick!)  Good thing there wasn't a close play at the pylon!

OK, the ball should be blown dead when it is at rest and no player attempts to secure it.

I am NOT saying it should have been blown dead here, but how long do you wait?  Here, the receiver comes up to the ball and hesitates, and obviously the officials moved WAY in on the play, which tells me they were probably very close to blowing it dead.

And why was Baylor-Texas Tech on FS FLORIDA?

You are correct, it should not be blown dead here.  Team B is moving to the ball and clearly is considering making a play.  As a B on punts that roll to a stop, I look around and if there are no Team B players any where in the area who appear to be making a move towards the ball, I count to 2 and whistle.


The game was on Fox Sports Network so whichever affiliate  someone was watching would be the one with their logo in the video.

As a result of this posting, I had the opportunity today to adjust my mechanics. R, onside attempt, went about 2 yards, stopped dead. I let other officials crash into the point of the ball, while I went *behind* the kicking-team line in case R got hold of it.
