Do you know where can I find on the 'net a list of NFL officials with their age ?

Lets put it this way most are way too old to be on the field with 20 something year old professional athletes.  It's like a bunch of old grandpas out there officiating their grandkids.

To paraphrase a famous movie quote "Stupid is as stupid says".  Most NFL officials are in their 30's to early 50's when active.

Ballhog and I did a game in which the coach on ballhog's side said, "The problem is they keep giving me these young guys.  I need old guy like you."

I'm not sure if he was really complimenting anybody, but a lot of coaches, and people, believe with age comes a certain amount of respect.

One of the BEST officials I ever worked with - he's on this list http://www.ihsa.org/announce/2001-02/020417.htm - was in his 60s, and one of the fastest and fittest guys I have ever worked with.

He was also probably the best official I have ever worked with.

The scouting process usually produces a rookie official between 40 and 45 years old.  Sometimes an official is hired in his late 30s, but that's pretty rare.

Since Ben Dreith sued the NFL for age discrimination, an official can work as long as he wants.  Officials usually retire between 60-65 years old, although Bob McElwee retired at 67, Jim Quirk at 68, and Ron Botchan in his late 60s.

I watched ESPNs Year of the Quarterback and there was a conversation with Brett Favre and Mike Carey.  I believe Mike Carey said he was 61 years old.  I'll be happy if I can look that good at 41!
