Like that'll stick.  Ridiculous, what is the DA thinking (smoking).

I suspect they did an investigation to find out how he made it to the sidelines and likely found he did some lying there.  That would be the impersonation, not the ref impersonation part

The Arizona law:  13-2006. Criminal impersonation; classification

 A. A person commits criminal impersonation by:

 1. Assuming a false identity with the intent to defraud another; or

 2. Pretending to be a representative of some person or organization with the intent to defraud; or

 3. Pretending to be, or assuming a false identity of, an employee or a representative of some person or organization with the intent to induce another person to provide or allow access to property. This paragraph does not apply to peace officers in the performance of their duties.

 B. Criminal impersonation is a class 6 felony.

I think it would be hard to prove an intent to defraud in 1 & 2.  I read that he just manipulated an old sideline pass that he used earlier, so if it had his name on it, doesn't look like #3 works either.

And I'll wager you Mike a new pair of black officiating pants that he never gets prosecuted for a felony.  You a taker?

Well you have already lost that bet since he was charged with a felony.  Whether he will be CONVICTED or not of a felony is another issue.  I quit betting on the justice system back when a football has-been got away with a double murder.

(I don't tell you how to fly jets...you don't tell me about the law.   ;-)   ;D  )

Mike,

How many times have you seen charges changed prior to trial (doubt there will be one either)?  I said prosecuted, not charged.  There is a difference, no?  Come on now, you know you want some of this.

I guess I just don't see the big whoop over this....a kid being a kid...pretty funny if you ask me, although why couldn't it have been a co-ed? :D

Best regards,

Brad

It was not a kid being a kid.  It was a jerk trying to get something, i.e. an invite to be on a TV show ("Wipeout").  He was doing this for financial gain.  Subsequent investigation and review of his own comments prove this was a well-planned and deliberate act, definitely not the act of a drunken college student in a moment of weakness.

Furthermore, his actions jeopardized the security personnel who put their own physical well-being in danger trying to apprehend him.  Any one of them could have had a heart attack or suffered sprains or broken appendages in the tussle.

Finally, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I submit to you that not adequately punishing this felon for his behavior will only encourage similar anti-social behavior by others who see him get all rewards and no punishment.  Our system of morality and our sense of proper behavior and manners DEMAND this perp receive the maximum punishment permitted by statute.

Jace Lankow, an undergraduate at the University of Arizona could face up to one and half years in jail after being charged with a class six felony for criminal impersonation.

I'm betting he gets 100 hours of community service and a "Hey, JERK -- don't do that again."
