Chapter Assigners Should Take Note
« on: January 24, 2012, 02:14:54 AM »
Over the last three weekends, the National Football League has had ten playoff games - and they have used 70 different officials - what an amazing concept!! FlAg1

And I'll bet not a single complaint.

No surprise there. The league has held that philosophy for years.

And I don't think Mike Carey was one of the 70 from what I recall seeing.  Surprising.

He could possibly have been an alternate, or maybe is working the Pro Bowl, or is in the Super Bowl.

The attached list was sent to me by an anonymous source, but as far as I can tell (I don't recognize every NFL official) it's been accurate so far.  I agree that it's surprising Mike Carey isn't on the list.

BTW, I've had some difficulty attaching or opening documents.  I assume it's a Firefox glitch, but if there's not a readable attachment here, let me know--not all of you--and I'll incorporate the list into the post.

From an assigner's standpoint, it would be nice to have such a large roster of highly qualified officials to choose from.

That's not the way it is for most of us.

Amen to that!

Yes, this was my immediate thought after reading the first post.

Oh for God's sakes! You are not talking to a rookie, or a disgruntled official (but, a former assigner). We all know, at least in Texas, that there are qualified officials who sit at home while some get 2 or 3 playoff games in a single weekend. All because of "intangibles" over which no one can articulate nor be held accountable. There's got to be a middle ground, and I, for one, think it would behoove us all to search for it.
