No more towel police?

and in Rule 1-5-3 the committee modified the rule regarding the wearing of towels

Do I ever hope?  I understand no derogatory comments but I've always thought that banning a colored towel or a towel with team emblem such as NameYour High Cougars with a cougar head was over the top.  I imagine the rule change will only deal with colors and still have to be blank.

Other than yellow/gold, I see no problem with a non-white, moisture absorbing towel.

Well, I believe NCAA said it had to be like 4x12 - no more, no less (I believe too).  Maybe NFHS followed suit.
Seems the last few years we've seen an increase of towels that were like flag football streamers (obviously serves no purpose).

Wearing a towel itself: I dont have a problem with.  It's the wearing the towel as a 'fashion statement' is the issue.
There's a lot of "you cant wear this" in the rules which on 1 hand seems like a waste, BUT if it's not spelled out in the rules, chances are you will see someone wanting to wear it.
It's not great to play fashion police, but with all the nonsense you see players trying/wanting to wear, I'm glad in a way we have the fashion rules.

I suspect this rule has been "honored in the breach" in many areas, including ours.

The streamers, tiger tails, etc. I understand but telling the coach his players need to take those unadorned, pink, breast cancer towels off was not my bag

An explanation I saw said all members of the team had to wear the same color towel.  They are allowed to have one manufacture name and logo but the player's name, number or team are not allowed.  A small step in the right direction but still too strict IMO.

I wonder how they will determine which color they're going to wear.  If left  to the kids, there will be 2-3 colors out there in warm-ups.  "Coach, let's play Rock, Paper, Scissors for a minute."

They'll figure it out. With everyone being consistent from game to game, it took about 1/2 season for basketball to work out the same issue with headbands, wristbands, etc.

Agreed, but we're possibly talking 40-50+ kids on the football field.  That is a lot of cats for the coaches to herd. 

Mom goes to the local sporting goods store and buys a towel for Junior.  He's the third string blocking and tackling dummie and enters the game in the fourth quarter during a blow out.  I'm not going to see it...(and if I did, I'd ignore it).

I believe the original "white only" rule was a proactive attempt by FED to prevent gang violence at games in certain areas of the country.  Evidently this has become somewhat less of a concern in football.
