DPI
« on: August 09, 2013, 12:17:44 AM »
This should be easy but I was discussing DPI with one of my crewmates and we couldn't find this scenario in the casebook.

1st and 10 at A's 20.  A1 passes to A2 at the 50 where he catches the pass and is tackled.  During the play B1 is flagged for DPI.  Does A have the option of taking the penalty or the result of the play or is the DPI tacked on the end of the run?  I always thought it was the former but the rulebook table says succeeding spot.   ???

Foul during a loose ball play, previous spot is basic spot.  Options are 15-yd penalty from basic spot or results of the play.

RTP is a tack-on foul.

I believe the Succeeding Spot reference in Table 7-1 applies to "c. Intentional Pass Interference". Also, if you look at the "Penalty Section for 7-5," the signal for Intentional Pass Interference is "S27" Unsportsmanlike Conduct.
