SLU/TCU Player DQ
« on: September 07, 2013, 02:18:09 PM »
SLU #51 lost his helmet and continued to participate. R announced UNS. The rulebook lists 9-1-17 as a Personal Foul (AR 9-1-17-I), was this changed?
Later in the game SLU #51 was flagged for an UNS from the bench and was DQed.
Misapplication?

No question that participating without a helmet is a 9-1 foul (Personal Foul) so unless there was something else going on in addition to the participating part it's a PF.  Maybe there is a "rest of the story" to the play?

Taking the helmet off intentionally is US.  Having it removed for you  or it falling off, is PF.  Easy to get that mixed up in the heat of the battle.

Is this player out for the 1st half next week?

Really?  Confused between whether he took his helmet off intentionally or he participated with it off?  Seem pretty different to me.  And if you announce it was participating without the helmet doesn't that pretty much mean that is what was reported to you?

I think BR meant easy to get the enforcement wrong, not observing how the lid was lost.

can't find any reference to the second UNS here

http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/playbyplay?gameId=332502628&period=4

And the foul in which SLU #51 lost his helmet is marked as personal foul, not UNS

is there any other gamebook?

First of all, ESPN does not provide anything close to reliable as a game record.  They are story-tellers at best, not historians.

Here is a link to the actual game record...

http://www.big12sports.com/ViewContent.dbml?CONTENT_ID=808148&DB_OEM_ID=10410#GAME.PLY

The first penalty is 3rd Quarter in TCU drive starting a 06:21.

The second is in 4th during SELA drive starting 08:40.

In the video provided it really didn't look like #51 was starting to leave the team area after the DQ.
Does anyone worry about that at this level? We make sure the player is leaving to remove the possibility of more problems.
