Big Sky Looking for Replay Staff

This may be of interest to you video junkies. You can download the profile sheet here: http://bit.ly/11lLc3B

As many of you know, we have been working towards instituting Instant Replay in the Big Sky Conference beginning in the 2015 season. The University Presidents have voted to proceed, and with that vote, Commissioner Fullerton has given me his permission to begin putting together a Replay staff.

I feel a sense of urgency to select the Replay staff sooner than later as we want our Replay staff to delve into the Rule Book and the Replay case plays to learn this aspect of Replay while in the off-season rather than wait until the season is upon us to start learning the process. Once the season approaches we will begin looking at the physical process of the equipment, duties and responsibilities of the Replay staff, mechanics of the Replay process, etc. At this point, and it is subject to change, the Replay official will travel and the Replay Communicator will be local.

For those who have not been involved in Replay and the process, I can assure you it is not the 8th official in the pressbox. Nothing could be further from the truth, in fact the Replay officials who fail or struggle with replay are those officials who go in with that mindset. It is HIGH pressure, fast-pace, highly technical, analytical with attention to small details; not, a warm place to re-officiate a play. Some of the best Replay officials across the country are younger officials who didn’t have what it took to work on the field but had those analytical skills, technical skills, pressure adapting skills, and who have solid rules knowledge. A Replay official should have a passion for looking at video, studying video, breaking down video; so, if you do not currently have that passion, it is not something we can create in you and you should not consider moving into the Replay direction.

Attached to this email is a Replay Official Profile Sheet for you to complete and return to me as a single .xls file. Please return it as an attachment to my email address: karlrichins@me.com You’ll notice I have asked you to attach a passport photo to the Profile Sheet which is your first test to see if you have those technical skills. Please do not send me two files (the Profile sheet and a photo); nor, print the profile sheet out and attach a photo and scan it then return it as a .pdf file. This is a simple drag and drop procedure with which those with Excel experience can quite easily accomplish.

My intent is to have our Replay staff in place within the first few weeks of January and then immediately begin the training process. I look forward to this endeavor and feel this a great learning experience for all of us. Please feel free to forward this email to whom ever you choose.

Take care,

Karl

Sun Belt, or Big Sky (or both?).  Geography could play a big difference there.

I don't see the replay official profile attachment. Can you resend it please?
