Ineligible Downfield/Legal Grounding
« on: June 25, 2015, 09:43:30 PM »
There's an AR or interpretation that covers this play about a lineman downfield when the QB legally grounds the ball after being outside the tackle box......but I cannot find it for the life of me.  Any help on where it might be?
Questions 44 & 45 on CCA test refer to this...sorta.
If the QB legally grounds the ball by throwing it OOB beyond the NZ extended, he has not fouled.  And since, by rule, this forward pass has not 'crossed the LOS' because it has not touched anything 'inbounds', ID is off the table.  This is what the play I'm looking for reflects.
However!! On the CCA exam, the play(s) is that the QB grounds the ball 'inbounds' this time, which, if I understand everything correctly, keeps ID in play because now the legal forward pass HAS crossed the LOS.
Rules I refer to are 2-19-3 and 7-3-2-h (exc)....and the vocabulary in them is very important in my opinion.
Is my thinking correct?

Look in the CFO manual under philosophies. Ineligible downfield is off the hook if the pass is legally grounded by throwing OOB.

I think the question is if the ID is still on the hook if the pass is legally grounded inbounds. I think it is.
