1. Not sure if this is a trick question because it seems pretty straight forward. But at the risk of being duped, I'll give the obvious answer of the B-10. It's the first "big" yard line from the back stake.

2. I've heard arguments both ways, but I put it on 4 as just a little reminder that the 4th down fumble rule applies. The leader of H breakout session at the TASO who I believe is a Big 12 H agreed, so I feel pretty comfortable with that.

I'm not sure what you mean by "what does it do?".

I was taught to turn the box sideways so it shows no down to the field of play.  Of course that was back when Shamu was a guppy

I like that one, leaves no doubt that this isn't a 1st or 4th down (just in case someone assumed the play ended without it being a TD) :-)

The good chain crews will put the clip at the 5.  When the big line is 1 yard away from the back stick, you use the next one so it doesn't get in the way of the HL when he sets it down.

Definitely should have 1st down.  Some people turn it sideways, but I don't.

OK, and it gets in whose way when?  If there's a measurement?  I've measured 9 yards of chain and never had a problem...

I have the crew move to the next 5 yard line if the clip will be 1 yard or less from the stick. The reason is when you jog in for a measurement it is a whole lot easier to hold the clip without bending over or the clip being pulled out of your hand if the chain crew member has the bottom of the pole low and it wants to pull the clip out of your hand. Of course you younger guys it might not be a problem, but after 39 years I try to do it the easy way. There is not a reason for either way just a preference of mine. The box on a PAT is not really important what you do as long as it is in the proper location as there is no down needed on a try. Again either of the above ways work. Good questions for a younger H to think about.
Start on a tick except in the redzone and you reduce the need to measure much. Just my 2 cents worth.

I agree... it's more of a "nice to have" to be at the B5 but I don't get bent out of shape when it's at B10 yards.  Plus it's easier for the inexperienced chain crews just to put it on the B10 in this example.
