Jackets now allowed?

Have noticed jackets being worn in a couple of games. Wondering if its a NCAA thing or by conference.

Interesting. I am not sure the CCA mechanics manual allows for this?

In my years, we weren't even allowed to wear jackets during pre-game warmup.  Woosies... ;D

Heard from a friend that the crew only brought short sleeves.  After the 90 minute storm delay, the temperature dropped 30 degrees, so instead of freezing, they got jackets to wear (from where?  I don't know).

Honigs? They are in Denver. Game was played in Colorado Springs, about an hour away or so away. 'Tis better to ask for forgiveness rather than permission. I've been in CS when the temperature in September was 70+ one day and had 2" of snow the next.

In some conferences, the AO wears a light jacket while standing on the sideline. I suspect every official could be an AO at one time or another, so everyone may own one by default. You can never pack too much.

A couple of years ago during the third week of May with a daytime temperature of 85.  Weather experts said a cold front was going to be coming in that evening.  Well, being in north Texas that means it was going to drop to 75.  Well, being in baseball season I was on the plate.  The wind began to pick up and let me say the experts were not wrong.  The temperature quickly dropped to about 25 and ice pellets began to fall.  We were in short sleeves and all I brought was a light jacket and I gave that to my partner to wear.  The score was 25 to 0 in the second inning.  Both coaches finally decided that every pitch should be called a strike in order to get the game over with.  We made it to the third inning and the losing team threw in the towel and we ended the game.  A week later we were swimming in the pool.

I always bring the full monty: short sleeves, long sleeves and the jacket (striped of course...). Along with a buff, gloves, thermal underpants and a few longsleeve shirts to wear under it all if needed.

Don't know whether that's really enough in freezing temperatures (around or below 0 °C), since I've only had that "opportunity" once before I was adequately packed every game ;)

Look at that dude in the Jacket.  All smiles.  I would have rolled him and took his jacket.   ;D

The first rule of officiating in Colorado, Wyoming, the Dakotas, etc., is that you take a long sleeved shirt to EVERY game. Even in August. I would have thought that at least SOMEONE on the crew would have known that.

Not a control freak by any stretch of any imagination, but I've fired people for taking this view and following through. Twice. 2 of only 3 firings I've ever had to do. On the other hand, I've granted permission for things I never thought I would solely because someone asked rather than take liberty. If it isn't obvious, there's not much I hate worse than this saying.

Had I been the Super for this crew, I doubt I would have suspended anyone. I would have sent out rule number 1 above and asked that the scenario not repeat itself. Had I been the CC, I don't think we would have worn the jacket. I've been miserable for 3 hours before. You survive. If you're doing your job you don't notice it too much. I don't mean that as a criticism as much as just an observation, but I wasn't there.

I’m here to testify.  Had a game 3rd week of September in 2000 in Laramie.  Living in a warm weather locale, I figured it might be long sleeve weather, but it should be nice up there that time of year....
Frickin’ blizzard.
Entire crew spent all morning on game day shopping for long underwear, face covers, gloves, etc. in Denver.  Wasn’t sure we’d get over the mountain pass to get to Laramie, but we managed.  Same mountain pass closed post-game.  Had to drive several extra hours around the mountains to get back to hotel (Denver).
Returned there twice in later years.  No blizzard, but plenty cold.
Brutal, but the price you pay.e

Any stadium above the Red River should be indoors.
Can we talk about Hawai’i?  Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.
