QB straddling goal
Line .  Front leg in field of play with foot at about 1/2 yard line and back leg with foot in end zone.  Looking straight ahead downfield , he Throws forward pass away illegally to save loss
Of yardage. Spot of foul ?

Well considering it's not a foul until he releases the ball, I would say it's likely to be just ahead of the GL if his arm is coming forward.  Let's say level with the front of his leading leg.

We were always told by our coordinator to not give a cheap score, so put the ball in the field of play, whenever possible.  With that philosophy, make the spot at the 1/2 yard line or so, next down.  Had both feet been clearly in the end zone at the moment of release, you'd have an argument for the spot being in the end zone.  Otherwise, put it in the field of play.

I don't think we've ever been instructed on the minutia of where the spot of the pass is.  I think in real time, I would just judge where the majority of his body is in relation to the goal line.  Or maybe even the "center" of his body.  If more of his body is breaking the plane of the end zone, then he's in the end zone.  I'm just spit-balling.  It kind of has to pass the eyeball test and I'd have to see it to rule one way or another.

More likely than not, we're going to rule this a safety.  The QB is getting sacked, so he's getting shoved back into the end zone.  It's going to "appear" that he's clearly in the end zone when he throws.

Obviously, if it's close, he's not in.
