Help I am having a brain fart

I can't find the rule reference or I am just over looking it.

Play A has the ball at the 50 yard line

4th and 20 A1 wants the throw the ball but no open receivers
A1 tucks and runs the ball for a 25 yard gain
Which would be a 1st down normally
But during the run A45 commits a BSB at B's 29 yard line
I know that the basic spot is the 29 yard line
so after the 15 yard mark A is till behind the Line to gain
Still 4th down since the line to gain had not been met

Right. The basic spot is actually the 25, because that’s the end of the run. The spot of enforcement is the 29 because that’s the spot of the foul, which is by the team in possession behind the basic spot. You can’t award a new series for either team until you consider the effects of all live ball fouls. So A didn’t get the first down.

Team A coach called a time out and wanted a conference to tell me I was wrong.
Team A coach told me that he did not know all the rules but he knew that rule and it was a first down because it happed to him 5 times last year and the crews always gave him a 1st down.
I told the coach I agree with you, you don't know all the rules

A similar play can happen where if it's a dead ball foul, it would be 1st and 10 since you handle all your live ball stuff first, then penalize.  Yours was a live ball foul, so you repeat the down.

I know the rule just looking for the reference

It was my first game of the season, and on my way home I always replay the game in my head, and for some reason a little doubt popped up ion the back of my head did I kick that rule.  then a couple on miles down the road I knew I was 100% right.

We had a somewhat similar situation in a big game Friday night.

Our U walked off 15 yards for DPI, looked at the chains and they said 1st & 7. 

Wait. What?  "Is that right?"

On 1st & 10 we had a holding right behind the LOS.

On 1st & 22 we had DPI.  So yeah, 1st & 7.

I told him and repeated to the crew later, "Waaay better to ask now than on the car ride home."
