Don't forget the POE's

While the sole new rule didn't bring much excitement, we should remind the coaches of the new Points of Emphasis. Our state association has supplied them to all of our coaches and our plan is to remind them of these during their first game :

"Coach, do you have a 'stay back' coach to remind players on the sidelines to stay there if a fight breaks out ?"

"Coach, remember to have a coach stand sentry at each end of the post-game handshake line ?"

"Coach, regardless of what you see at the NCAA or NFL level, knee pads covered by pants are still required in high school. It's a safety issue. "

Hopefully this will get everyone on the same page. Games seem to run better when we all stay there.

I Agree 100%.  The stay back issue is more for us than for the 22 players on the field.  The 3 most serious official injuries that I've seen in my game were all sideline collisions with players/coaches "in the way".   The issue with knee coverage cannot be overstated IMHO.  We had several serious staph infections traced back to the players wearing "bike shorts" that got most of their skin removed from their knees on turf fields.  It's a very simple thing yet important.  Also, the knee injuries are getting worse as the number of high schools with turf fields approaches 100%.

Ralph this is a very good reminder thank you!  I usually try and use my sideline warning very early in the game if my instructions were not being respected.  Good stuff.

Guys, while I totally agree with giving us enough room to operate on the sidelines, this POE is aimed at keeping bench players on the bench if a fight breaks out.

Because bench clearing brawls happen all the time while players/coaches etc crowding the field never does.  Leave it to NFHS to deal with the meaningful stuff....

What year will we have the POE of how to deal with the Unicorn on the field after spearing a mermaid and running around with her impaled on the horn???

It's like the one year where they had proposals on the table to fix the ILF rule to make it a foul for 5 in the backfield vs 6 on the line, and instead there was a change dealing with what happens when the runner's prosthetic leg comes off.  !

While on the POE topic.
I would like to see the POE similar to one in 2008 with the topic of false starts, motion and shifts.
These topics have not been discussed for years and no rules have changed.
It would be a great reminder and give definition to what is and is not legal.
Some aspects of the game have changed.
Take for example a clap or fake clap maybe with the signal caller's movement. Or a high knee raising to start a player in motion.  Legal or not?
