After 24 years on the field this year I will not be working any games due to 2 reasons
Reason #1 is I am having major Blood Pressure problems Normally with meds my BP is under control about 6 weeks ago I went to donate plasma for the first time. When the donation center took my BP it was 170/120. I felt fine so they had me to wait 30 minuets and took it again had a slight drop but it was 160/104 still too high to donate. I immediately called my Primary care Doctor and made appointment  to get check out. When I got to the DR office my BP was 160/98 he adjusted my medication and to me to check my Bp every couple of hours. Well for the next 2 weeks I would see slight improvements in my numbers but a day for two later by Bp was out of control again and this time every time I would look up I would get dizzy. I went back and told him my new symptoms. This time I got a full workup of labs and EKG which was all normal. Doc put mr on a 3rd bp med and put me on a bland diet.  I am happy to say at this time my bp is with in normal range however my doc asked me to stay off the field for awhile until we make sure My Bp stays down in the normal range for 3 months I told him that would be no problem

Reason #2 is my youngest son plays in the High School band I was going to make sure that I would see him preform so when the band would be marching I would not accept an assignment on those nights.  I had plan to work all 9th grade games and SR varsity when the band would not be preforming.

So this year and probably next year due to my son being a JR I will be setting in a climate controlled Press Box running the play clock.
I have also taken some Red Hat assignments

I have a couple of question about some things I saw last night in a SR varsity game that we traveled to as the visiting team.

This question I would like to see some other officials responses

#1 Did I miss a rule change on the 25/40 sec clock that when there a official stoppage for a penalty or injury etc for the defense that the play clock would be set to 25 instead of 40?

#2 I am still trying to wrap my head around this one  Home team score a touchdown and goes of 2. during the try the QB in shotgun formation rolls right. he throws the ball to the wideout streaking in the back of the end zone where he catches it for what appears to be for a successful try, however there is a flag down the officials come together and says that the wideout went out of bounds on his own then comes back in bounds and is the first to touch/catch the ball for the successful try. They call illegal touching and gives the visting team a choice accept the foul for illegal touching we will back them up 5 and replay the try or decline the foul and the points stand and we will kick off from the 40. The visitors took the foul back them up 5 yards and replayed the try which has successful

the 2 points did not matter in the final score but my question is and I have not got my rule book or case book with me when the receiver went to of bounds on his own and came back in and caught the ball for the try. should the call been illegal participation instead of illegal touching? should the score be nullified? and should the offended team have the foul marked off on the kick of?

Yes, the foul should have been IP. in High School, if a receiver is eligible at the start of the down, he's eligible throughout the down. The step out and return didn't make him ineligible, it caused him to illegally participate. So what you had was an eligible receiver participating illegally.
Also, the "and be the first to touch the pass" is a college requirement, not NFHS. It's not in the rule book. The foul happened when he came back in. Whether he touches a pass or not is immaterial for the reasons discussed above.

Illegal Touching carries a LOD provision, so the try would not be repeated.  However, the correct penalty on this play is IP, which is a 15-yard penalty & replay of the try.

You didn't miss anything. Defensive penalty or foul resets the play clock to 40 seconds if it was that straightforward. I could concoct something more complex that ends with a 25 second play clock, but it would be obviously more complex and don't want to play the hypothetical game if it was just a simple injury or penalty.

Hello, I believe all Penalty administration the play clock is set to 25 seconds.  It is under 2 minutes to go in the half that any defensive injury the play clock is set to 40 seconds and if it is an offensive player injury then the play clock is set to 25 seconds.

Thank you for referencing the exception.  It makes sense that if defense fouls the play clock would reset to 40 seconds.  This would avoid the defense fouling on purpose under 26-40 seconds left to play.  Is that how you read the intent of this exception?

Don I will address reason 1. I also hit the wall with high blood pressure. Mine was , and I will always remember the number, was 249/125. This caused a fairly massive stroke. It was on January 1,2017 just to start that year off with a bang. I am on my meds now and my blood pressure is now in the normal range. This forced me to retire from officiating football after 18 years. You can't officiat a football game if you can't run.
Hope you get better and get back on the field when you can.
