Double change of possession in overtime
« on: October 09, 2025, 04:20:07 PM »
If there is a double change of possession in the first series in overtime, will a field goal end the game?  Specifically, Team A receives the initial OT kickoff.  On a subsequent play Team B intercepts and during the interception return, fumbles with Team A recovering.  Team A is awarded a new series of downs and ends the possession by kicking a field goal.  Is the game over or does Team B get a possession?

Similarly, if Team A kicks a field goal during their first possession, will a double change of possession during Team B's possession end the game?

The game is over. Once the initial possession ends scoreless, the "team next scoring by any method shall be the winner" (Rule 16-1-3-c, Rule 16-1-4-c).
