Scrimmage Kick

K punts the ball to R.  As the ball is approaching the goal line and no R in the area K catches the ball at the 2 yard line slides with two knees at the 1 yard line and continues into the endzone of R.  How do you handle this play?

Ball is dead where K gains possession.... knees do not matter or the EZ for this matter. Kick ends when possession is gained does not matter what team. R gets the ball on the 2 yard line.

As I understand it, in NFL this would be a touchback. In NCAA (and NF) R's ball at the 2.

If he goes down on his knees to slide at the on the 1 (as I'm reading the OP), isn't the ball dead there, preventing the use of the momentum exception?

The momentum rule only applies to a live ball, so in this case it did not apply because the ball was already dead at the 2.  K cannot advance a kick recovered beyond the neutral zone, so any motion by the K player after catching the ball is ignored.  K cannot keep the ball if it had not first been touched by R (which was the case here) so 1st down for R at their 2 yard line.

Might help if I read the play thoroughly (sp?).  I read this as R recovering on the 2, not K.
