New SEC Mechanic ?

Has the SEC gone to another way of the deep and short flanks positioning to coordinate re TD plays at the pylon?   I assume the F is watching the sideline before the pylon and L is concentrating on goal line plane?

Not sure why F is positioned that close to L, but SEC does not vary from national mechanics on these type plays.

I've seen cameramen getting closer to the action during plays more this year than in the past.  There have been a couple of times (possibly like this one) where they were behind the limit lines when the ball was snapped and then moved close to the sideline during the play.  Of course, we didn't see them until the play was almost over as we weren't looking out of bounds.  One of them will get run over and seriously injured one of these days.

Many of us have griped about IR not having a camera view right down the goal line.  At least , they are trying to get that view here.   Maybe there was insufficinet room for them to get back any more?

I don't think a hand held camera like that is the answer.  With an official being on the goal line, the camera needs to be high enough to see over the top of the official.  But, maybe that's what the networks thought would be best.

While working a D-II game this year as F, I had an encounter with a cameraman.  Before each play, I always make sure the 2 yard belt is clear.  It was clear before this play.  Then the receiver and defender are running down the sideline.  I am backpedaling, as I should.  I moved toward the 2nd yard of the belt and, as I went past the team box line,WHACK!  The side of my head meets a TV camera.  Evidently, the cameraman "encroached" into the 2 yard belt after the snap.  I was not very happy and had a headache for 3 days.  After that incident, many assistant coaches became "get back" coaches before each play!

No.  Honestly, I was more worried about regaining my balance and finishing the game.  My R gave a stern warning to the coach; even though the cameraman was not affiliated with the school.

In a brief glimpse at the end of the video, it appears that the seats are very close to the field of play.  For someone who has been to War Memorial, is there a 12 foot buffer (limit line) outside the goalling pylon?

Furthermore, it appears that the existing buffer decreases as you move towards the endline - perhaps explaining the "new SEC mechanic" by the F.  How much buffer is present at the endline plyon?

You can use the zoom bar to get a good overhead view of it. Appears the limit line does go all the way around but may be shaved a bit in a few corners

This TD was in the NW corner of the stadium.  Looking at the map Mike referenced, if the cameraman set his milk crate outside the restraining line at the goal line, he would have been in the first row of the stands.

In most stadiums, TV will have their sideline camera on a dolly with a lift.  That way they can get right on the goal line, back far enough and high enough to get a shot.  There isn't room to get a dolly in here.  If they want the goal line shot for replay purposes, there isn't a lot of choice of where else to put the cameraman.

Of course, none of that explains why the FJ was that close.  This play started on the 3 yard line.  Seems to me he should have had the end line.
