Looking for a good watch
« on: August 21, 2011, 09:54:17 PM »
accessory question: does anyone know where you can get a good watch where the start/stop/reset each has its own button?  I like the timex ironman, but I don't like how if you accidentally double hit the stop button it resets.

I bought a cheapie watch for $10 at academy last night. Has two buttons for the stopwatch/timer functions. Start/Stop button and Reset button. Three timer modes, Chronograph with Lap timer and a countdown mode. Nice big face too.

I bought a casio last year or the year before. This one, essentially: http://www.amazon.com/Casio-W756-1AV-Digital-Sport-Watch/dp/B0013M6BRA

Start/stop is one button and reset is a completely separate button, so no more accidentally clearing out the clock!

The battery of my watch gave out last week and I borrowed someones Casio.
I really liked the seperate buttons for Start/Stop and Reset (I used to have an Ironman and got burned more than once by pressing the button too many times).
His was different than the link, but I'm going to be getting a Casio as my next watch.

I use the Casio RFT-100. Reset button is separate from Start/Stop. The vibration alarm also comes in handy as it means I can manage the play clock timing appropriately without taking my eyes off the players when working R.

The RFT-100-1V was unavailable when I was last watch shopping. If it's available again, I highly recommend it.

ETA: It looks like the RFT-100 is still difficult/impossible to find in North America.

I, too, missed the RFT-100 when it was available in America.  But I borrowed a friend's for a game and was so impressed with it (especially the vibration alarm -- invaluable for a BJ so I don't have to stare at my watch and possibly miss game action) that I finally found one available at an Australian vendor and bought it -- I know I paid more than I should have, but I truly love the watch.  I can't fathom why they discontinued it in the US...

Reebok Professional Game Timer
I saw this at Honigs but was never available - did a search and finally got it - it comes in its own metal case too which I thought was a nice touch.

Quote
This watch is designed for keeping game time on the Field. It is not suitable for keeping track of the play clock. It has a countdown program mode and can be set to 1 minute, nut no lower. This highly specialized digital watch was designed with input from the NFL., fulfilling all requirements in a watch to be used by the on-field officials. Large, durable display face with custom bumpers to protect it from impact. Easy to use, quickly adjustable countdown timer that makes it easy for the Official to stop the countdown time and add or subtract time, then restart the timer. Electro-Luminescent lighting system for high visibility in the dark.

For every coach that thinks we got it wrong there's another that thinks we got it right.
